Can anyone enlighten me about the coachbuilder call Zietz.

Examples of their work can be seen in Lozier, Herbert The Car of Kings Chilton Book Company [1967] pp 276-291.

Hello 'Hektor',

Welcome to Coachbuild.com and enjoy your stay!

Do you know which country Zietz originated from?

Hello to You, Hector, and welcome new in this community,

the book-title, You have given us, is: http://openlibrary.org/b/OL5549703M/car_of_kings
I do not have it, but know we know, it is for the Mercedes-Benz-serie W06, under-titled in 680S/710SS/720SSK, built 374-times between 1927 and 1934.
With CB-Zietz/Geneve-CH I only know about a MB W06-680S (= 27.170.225PS)/1928 as a 2dr-rhd-Tourenwagen.
A few pictures without more text.
With greetings, FrankWo

Hello Hektor,

to the best of my knowledge (and that may come from the Lozier book!) Zietz were based in Geneva.

A copy of one of the three bodies in The Car of Kings was made in the mid-1980s by Rod Jolley and placed on the Mercedes-Benz 36/220 (680S) chassis once owned by Peter Ustinov. The recreation was done purely from photographic evidence rather than examination of drawings or an existing car. The UK registration of this car was YX 5964 but I cannot locate a chassis or commission number at the moment.

A photograph of the Mercedes-Benz stand at the 1928 Geneva Salon also appears to show an original car, but apart from that I have never found another picture of a Zietz-bodied car beyond those in the Lozier and Frostick books.

Clive.

Dear Michiel,

According to The Car of Kings Zietz was in Geneva.

Dear Frank, Ron and Clive,
Thank-you for your comments. Interesting that Rod Jolley made a replica body. I wonder where it is? There is one in the United States, painted white with chrome wheels. I’m surprised it doesn’t have white wall tyres! It is different from the two illustrated in Lozier and Frostick.
Zietz must have made more than two bodies. There was a Zietz bodied Mercedes-Benz “Stuttgart” for sale a few years ago.
It would certainly be of interest to find out more about Zietz. Even their door hinges are unique.
Regards,
Hektor

In that case, other than the windscreen they are identical.
