This is by my knowledge NOT a vignale car. It is designed by Giovanni Michelotti and built by Carrozzeria Michelotti.

Yes! You're right.
You can clearly see the Michelotti badge on the side.

Turin motor Show 1958: Salvatore Ruffino, the italian importer of Standard-Triumph cars, signed an agreement with the british management to build a coupè model that would combine the engineering of british sport cars with the manufacture of italian coachbuilders, a perfect marriage for both. It involves the construction of 1000 cars based on the TR3 chassis with the 1991cc 100CV engine, which will be distributed worldwide exclusively by Ruffino, since coupè Italia not appears in the official Triumph list.
Giovanni Michelotti designed the prototype and in July 1959, Vignale began the production with few changes from the original design: the grille and teardrop headlights. The initial neapolitan exuberance of Ruffino, unfortunately, reduced when in 1961 the Standard- Triumph is absorbed by Leyland Motors, because serious economic difficulties. So, the chassis are lacking when the production hasn't yet reached the 300 vehicles. And in the favourite market, the USA, the new Triumph TR4 costs $ 1000 less than in Italy. Ruffino plays everything: buys the TR3B chassis remained and the new TR4 gearboxes, change the brand from Italia in 2000, but without success. The last 35 cars are produced in 1962 and some of them remain in storage until 1965. It will be built 329 in all, 6 of them as RHD. Thus ends the adventure of a courageous businessman and one of the most interesting sportcar in the early '60s.
Today , the value of an Italia/2000 coupè exceeds € 120.000.

TRUE! This an experimental Triumph TRS from 1961. A one-off styled by Michelotti and engineered and tuned by Conrero for competition use. Had the works race programme run into 1962 it might well have run at Le Mans, but that was not to be and it was road-registered and sold to a private individual. It still exists somewhere today.

Clive.
