1947 Cadillac coachbuilt in the Spohn Custom series approximately 1955. Contract for the car from Mr Charles (Chuck) Justice of Gainesville, Virginia, who shipped his used Cadillac to Spohn from the US state of Virginia and then paid his own shipping when Spohn had completed his requests. The customization is reported to have cost $14,000.

We see here a front end design mimicking the Brooks Stevens' Die Valkyrie which Spohn had first exhibited at the 1954 Paris Auto Show. There is no hood scoop common to Customs done for US Air Force pilots. There is no side venting of the engine compartment. The fadeaway" front fender line was used on some production late '40s Buick cars (though not Cadillac) as well as being an occasional practice of US custom shops. The kick-up fins atop the pontoon fenders then housing what appear to be three oval tail lamps per side are unusual and I can not think of a reference for them. The "frenched" nacelle for the triple tail lamps is vaguely similar in shape to the '51 GM show car XP-300.

Photos credit to David S. Henderson who snapped them at his friend, Frank Towsey's used car lot, also in Gainesville, VA, in approx. early 1970s.
