AFAIK (but I'm no 507 expert), this wasn't a rebody of a works 507, but a pre-series car and an early design prototype before BMW had Graf Goertz draw the final 507 design for them. I didn't know that that car had a body by Spohn, but it might very well be true.

The car still exists btw, I think it's in the BMW factory collection.

Hi,

The complete name of the car is:

BMW-Baur 502-2600 Loof-Ro2/1954

Drawing: Ernst Loof - gets a E542-502-chassis with 2.600ccm-engine ; model (Vorbild?) was the Veritas Nürburgring/1953
Baur/Stuttgart-GER shorted the E542-chassis for the carosserie - all works are paid with 15.000;--DM/1954 ---> 86.250;--€/2010 ...

... BMW prefers to realize the Goertz-planing (E543-503 & E547-507), the Austro-American USA-car-dealer Max Hoffmann supports for car-designing ...,

... with greetings, FrankWo ;)

I've been following the recent Spohn postings, but I'm sorry to say I haven't seen a single good looking car... :(

IMO a lot of hit-or-miss.....there made some elegant Maybach DS 7/8 and SWs bodies.

That 507 should be in the Baur thread though, and I agree that it's quite ugly. :lol:

Where on earth does one acquire such a taste? Under a rock? In a yet to explore prehistoric cave? In the deepest pits of the ocean? :lol:

If BMW says the first car shown is Baur, I certainly accept that.
This car is so very similar in all aspects other than front bumper and execution of grille to hood detailing. Is it another car or the same car with earlier or later appearance.

The top car's registration plate appears to end "...006".
The later plate "...008".
Perhaps there was a "...007" in which case we invite comment from Mr. Bond. James Bond.
