Spohn seemed to be very hit or miss with their styling post WWII.

We must remember that Josef Eiwanger Sr. retired in 1945 and he had been manager as well as the styling genius of prewar Spohn. His son, Joe Eiwanger Jr. took over Hermann Spohn and Jr's strength was in engineering. In fact when Spohn closed in mid-57 he went to work at MBZ as an engineer.

No, it is a VW bodied by the Belgian coachbuilder Cryns.

Are you sure? The admistrator of the Spohn facebook fan page said it was by Spohn (although he or she have 1953 as the year) but of course it could be wrong.
It also looks reminiscent of other Spohn designs of the era. At least at the rear.

It is listed as Cryns at this Belgian VW website: http://www.bugland.be/Verschillende_Vw- ... built.html
and you can find it together with another VW by Cryns at AutoPuzzles.

I have corrected the Spohn Custom Enthusiasts page on Facebook.. Definitely Cryns. My original source was not accurate.
Thank you.
