An atmospheric shot of the 1929 New York Salon, with a Saoutchik bodied Mercedes in the middle (#35949?). Another Mercedes is also visible, any clues? Also Saoutchik? On a 630K?

It is a very heavily modified 1921 28/95 trying to look like one of the later S series, but, as much as anything, the very heavy wings around the wooden artillery wheels give it away.

Clive.

A few years ago I talked with the owner of the mysterious black 28/95.
The car was delivered in 1921 as a factory bodied Open Tourer to a captain in Wilhelmshaven/Germany. In 1934 the uncle of the present owner, a Hotelier in Baden-Baden, bought the car. The uncle brought it to a body repair works named "Haller" in Baden-Baden and let them built this roadster body. The car is unrestored since 1934.

Are you sure it's bodied by Saoutchik?

Macquet & Galvier bodied a very similar car.

Regards.

No, I'm not sure, but I compared it with other Saoutchik MB's. The car of the 6th pic on the first page in this topic is very similar to this one. I've never seen the Macquet & Galvier, do you have a pic ?

Ok, when I compare these two cars, then I find a few differences. The car from the Deauville-pic is definitely another than this one.
Is it sure, that the car above is from Macquet & Galvier ?

Tommy

No doubt I'd say. It also shows the difference between a brilliant design and a mediocre one....

Hello to You, Serg,

This car was born in 1937 as a MB-Sindelfingen W29-540K ; chassis# - 408 355 ; a 2dr-lim.
In 1947 it was rebodied by French CB-Fréjat. Then its travelway was F > YV > USA > S > USA.
Up-to-date it has a 500K-engine(#-113 675) and also separate 500K-headlights ...,
... so no 770/1937> and also no Saoutchik/1947> ...,

... with greetings from GER to You in H ...,

... Yours, Frank ;)

You have right Rob !
Here the text states this car was at New York Motor Show in 1929.
http://paulrussell.com/portfolio-retros ... z/28_680s/

I made a mistake before. The No. 40156 was the yellow's car job number. And in this year this car was at Pebble Beach Concours, wich was won the Best of Show award.
What may have been the chassis number of the Paris show car ?
