As far as factory bodies go on the Aston Martin, just about all are by Bertelli for the period 1926-1940. The Bertelli brothers were the owners of the company during this time. Despite being known as "Bert" and "Harry", their surname should give a clue as to why some of the works team racing cars from this "quintessentially English" manufacturer were painted red!

Ulster chassis no. D5/570/U: Only thirty 'Ulsters' were built by the factory, ten of which were team cars and given the 'LM' prefix to their chassis numbers (LM11-LM21). They were the most successful of the Aston Martin factory racers with the highest place at Le Mans being 3rd. in 1935 (LM20) and winners of the Rudge Whitworth Cup. They also competed at the Tourist Trophy, Mille Miglia, Targa Abruzzi and were frequently seen at Brooklands and Donnington. They were pure sports cars having been developed and driven by Bertelli himself, the Ulster is the culmination of over ten years of continuous racing experience. Very few sports cars can boast the pedigree of the Aston Martin 'Ulster'.
This car is one of four 2/4 seater 'Ulsters' built by the factory in 1935. Only two of these cars have survived in their original form. Of the four, one has been converted into a 2 seater, one has a 2 litre engine and the other is owned by the Aston Martin Owners Club.
