I was at the auction for the "Duchess", and had a party for its owner and his family and friends at a friend's NYC apartment..
It's a visually striking automobile, the last bespoke custom built by GM for a private individual. The Duke and GM Chairman
Alfred P. Sloan were good friends, and the GM Styling Section worked closely with the former King to create the car.
It features design hallmarks that would appear on later production cars, like the rounded passenger window glass
and flow-through front fenders. Massive, almost sinister, but beautiful in person!
The Duchess was bid to $415,000, did not meet reserve, and the owner has since gone silent.

Larger, the last registration before the Duke sold the car.
Thanks Tommy, for posting the Duchess!
