More pictures of the chassis series 1705 of 1939 It's a Super Eight I think.

Franay of France did a number of bodies on Packard chassis in the late 30s, several of them are pictured in Hugo Pfau's nice book. This lovely one-off had an interesting history, ordered originally by a French aristocrat and taken over by the Nazis after the fall of France, and used by the Military Governor of Paris as a staff car. When the Germans fled, the car was picked up, repainted in US olive drab, and used by the US armed forces. It suffered a serious accident and was bought and returned to the States in 1953 by a US military man and underwent a restoration about 20(?) years later. Current owner is in New Jersey. Photo by Jeff Guss on 12/7/08 at the CCCA Metro Region Christmas Party.

Glorious Packards...thanks!

Marten, you're correct; the confusion comes from the image's source,
The Making of Modern Michigan's Digital Collections.

A sliding door convertible on the Packard 120 chassis: the cost of the body will have been compartively high.
