Abarth Fiat 2200

The black one was bought off the stand at 1962 Turin Motor Show by Briggs Cunningham for his wife. But she didn't like it and it was sold. Supposedly it's one of only two currently in existence, the second being formerly owned by Mrs. Abarth.

Allemano Abarth 850 Coupe going up for auction @ RM.

RM Auctions wrote:
Estimate: $60,000-$70,000 US
Est. 52 bhp, 965 cc A112 Abarth four-cylinder engine, four-speed manual transmission, four-wheel drum brakes. Wheelbase: 78.75"

Carlo Abarth is best known for his delightful, 750 GT Zagato Coupe, the famous “Double Bubble.” What is less well known is that there were a number of other exciting Abarth cars built on the same Abarth modified Fiat 600 chassis. These include the rare and highly collectible Record Monza, in both pushrod and twin cam (Bialbero) versions, and the Allemano Spider and Coupe. One of the most rare Abarth cars, on the 750/850 GT chassis, was the 850 cc coupe with a body by Carrozzeria Allemano of Torino, Italy. The exact number built is not known, but it is generally agreed that the total is less than 200. Currently, less than 10 are known to exist in North America. In the book The Italian Car Registry by John de Boer, less than 30 of the nearly 600 Abarth 750/850 GT cars listed are Allemano coupes. The “Double Bubble” accounts for nearly 400 and the Record Monza, 65. At less than 30 known, the Abarth 850 Allemano Coupe is truly a rare car. In its day, the Abarth Allemano Coupe was very well received but sold in very small numbers. At a price of $3,385, it was in direct price competition with the Porsche Speedster and Alfa Romeo Guiletta Spyder. In a road test for their October 1960 issue, Road & Track magazine made the following comments: “In the case of Carlo Abarth’s latest creation, the Fiat Abarth 850, there was no need for prolonged discussion – the car completely captivated everyone… the new Allemano-bodied coupe is doubly enchanting for it is – in addition to being a fine sporting machine – a completely practical car for day-to-day transportation… our staff was completely won over by this little jewel.” Motor Life magazine had similar comments in their road test in the February 1961 issue. “Driving the Allemano Fiat Abarth is sheer delight,” they wrote. “Every automobile fan who has test-driven a Fiat Abarth has fallen in love with it – and we are no exception. Comfortable seating, quick, effortless steering, a four-speed gearbox which is fun to operate, almost 360-degree vision, and an 833cc Abarth-equipped Fiat mill that growls like a Ferrari…this is living.” This particular example was acquired by the current owner in 1988 from an Abarth collector in Tampa, Florida. The original purchaser reportedly resided in Atlanta, Georgia. Shortly after acquisition in 1988, the car was disassembled for restoration. The restoration proceeded as time permitted but was put on hold in 1995 when other higher priority projects intervened. In early 2008, the restoration was restarted and was completed in late 2009. Since the original Abarth 850 engine was no longer with the car, a new replica Abarth engine was built. A new factory “crate” Abarth A112 engine was purchased. All of the external parts were replaced with the proper Abarth 850 components to maintain the proper engine configuration. This includes the carburetor, tach drive distributor, water pump, exhaust manifold, Abarth split sump cast alloy oil pan and other parts.

What about this one? It looks pretty much like the 5th car pictured in the Allemano Fiat topic, except it's a cabriolet, there's Abarth written on the bonnet instead of 2200 and the headlamps in the grill.

This is a 1959 Abarth 2200 spider, with Allemano body (design Michelotti).
Is a different version of the car in this post:

The front design changed because the public of the Salone di Torino 1959 didn't like the strange four lights.
In the pictures the first and the second version.

Yes, this is the #105 speciale competizione designed by Franco Scaglione, built in aluminium by Allemano and equipped by Abarth with a supercharged 1100 engine, dry sump lubrification system and a 6-speed semi-automatic transmission.
