Ivo Groen

VP Design Programs, DS Automobiles France

Born 1967 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands Ivo emigrated to the USA aged 13, and was accepted at only 18 years of age to the prestigious Art Center College of Design in California, where he obtained his degree 4 years later.

After an internship at Renault Design (1988), he was hired at Style Citroën (1990), working on the renewal of the brand, notably with the new range of C3, C5 & C6 models.

After this accomplishment, Groupe PSA proposed him the responsibility of Prospective and International Cooperation projects, amongst which the Joint-Venture with Toyota was his first major program, resulting in Aygo, Peugeot 107 & Citroën C1, (2005) ; followed by their replacement models Peugeot 108 and Citroen C1 phase II (2014).
At that time, he was working in Japan notably with TMC’s Deputy Chief Engineer Sawa-san (now President of Lexus) and TMC Design Division 2 Director Otsuki-san, who’s Chief designer Hiruta-san (now Design boss of Lexus) was his interface on the Peugeot 107 and Citroën C1 which were designed simultaneously, because they shared common parts such as the front doors, the windscreen and Instrument Panel (IP).
The second generation B0, which resulted in the triplet Toyota Aygo II, Citroen C1 series 2 & Peugeot 108 also shared common parts, including the Instrument Panel; this time designed by Ivo's team ( the first IP competition was won by the Toyota designers, each company’s team was responsible for their own exterior designs except for the common parts designed as teamwork).

During this time, he also worked on MPV and LUV projects with Fiat-Lancia, and was in charge of the first PSA SUV C and D segment developed in cooperation with Mitsubishi (2006).

When DS Automobiles became a selfstanding brand of the Groupe PSA, Ivo had the honor of becoming the Chief Designer of its first model : DS7 Crossback premiering at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

This true Petrolhead works on Avant-Garde Design on weekdays, and during his leisure time enjoys driving & tinkering with his classic automobiles created in the sixties by his heroes Giorgetto Giugiaro & Marcello Gandini.

I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them. Congratulations on an excellent website.
