This Ferrari 375 MM was originally built with a Pininfarina Spyder competition body, painted in red. The ex-factory racing car was soon sold to movie director Roberto Rossellini, husband of movie star Ingrid Bergman, in 1954 and he used it on the streets.
After Rossellini damaged the front he returned it to the factory and after the chassis repairs, the car was sent to Scaglietti, where Rosselini ordered a special coupe body. Sergio sculpted an entirely new body out of aluminium for #0402AM. It was his very first passenger car design on a Ferrari chassis.
It took Scaglietti around a year to build the design and in 1955 the car was finished and delivered to Roberto Rossellini.
The #0402 375 MM was bought and restored by the Microsoft executive Jon Shirley and the restoration specialist Butch Dennison. It later became the first postwar Ferrari to win Best of Show at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them.
Congratulations on an excellent website.
