In 1957 Rometsch introduced a new model designed by Bert Lawrence, heavily influenced by contemporary American styling trends. Many feel that this later redesign spoiled the original Beeskow design with its American style cues, but the design still won the Golden Rose Award of Geneva in 1957.
Like the preceeding Beeskow model, the Lawrence model was available as a coupe and convertible. As with the Beeskow model, the body was handcrafted aluminum over a steel and wooden framework. Production of this model continued until 1961, when the Berlin wall went up, separating the East German workforce from the workshop in West Berlin. The Rometsch firm still technically existed after that, but in a much-diminished capacity. 250 examples of the Lawrence were built.
I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them.
