This Ferrari 166MM/53 was first delivered as a Vignale Berlinetta (see last photo) to a Mr. Jacques Herzet from Brussels, Belgium, who raced it many times with great succes in 1953 and 1954.
In 1954 Mr. Herzet had the car rebodied as a Barchetta by Martial Oblin. Herzet raced his Oblin 166 Spyder for two more years and then sold the car to Jean de Dobbelus, Brussels, Belgium. Since 1966 the car has had four American owners. In 1992 Bob Smith, Gainesville, TX, USA, gave the car a full restoration.

I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them.
Congratulations on an excellent website.
