The 410 Superamerica was a revised version of Ferrari's 375 America and for many, it was the ultimate Grand Touring car of its day. Only 34 were ever made in three series between the autumn of 1955 and summer 1959. For the chassis Ferrari reworked their 375 ladder type frame by widening the track and fitting new coil sprung front suspension (in place of the 375's transverse leaf set up). Some additional revisions focused primarily around increasing structural rigidity in anticipation of the larger displacement and even more powerful engine.
In 1956 Boano constructed his first body on a Ferrari; a 250 GT, chassis #0461GT. This extravagant convertible was first shown at the '56 Geneva Show and at the '56 Torino Show. It was heavily influenced by American creations and featured unique finned coachwork.
An identical design was built on a 410 Superamerica chassis (#0485SA), and on another 410 SA chassis (#0477SA), also a coupe version was constructed for a Mr. Upton.
In 1987 the 410 SA Coupe was sold to the second and current owner Robert M. Lee, who currently owns all three examples with this type of body design.
I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them.
