Zagato Mini Gatto
This Mini Coupe by Zagato is a 1961 one-off prototype. The aluminum body was designed by Ercole Spada on the longer-wheelbase floorpan of the Mini Van. It was displayed at the London Motor Show. Zagato intended to build a run of 30 pieces which never happened.
Some sources say it had a fibreglass body, but this is untrue. Dutch journalist Jeroen Booij 'discovered' the Zagato Mini Gatto in 2008 in a shed where it had stood for decades and the car certainly has an aluminum body!
Jeroen Booij: "I asked Andrea Zagato once I met him. He wasn't sure too, immediately phoning up his father and handing me over the phone. It was aluminum. Naturalmente signore."
