Alfa Romeo TZ3: the return of the "Tubolare Zagato" [update: wallpapers added]
Alfa Romeo is celebrating its centenary this year and already unveiled the Bertone Pandion and Pininfarina 2uettottanta. A third concept was expected but didn't show up in Geneva. Villa d'Este is the place where Zagato will introduce the Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa Concept.
The Zagato TZ3 follows the path of the famous '62 TZ1 and '64 TZ2 which Zagato built on the basis of the Alfa Giulia to a design of Ercole Spada.
Zagato's press release reads:
The TZ3 Corsa is not a design exercise. It doesn’t take inspiration only from the 90 year collaboration between the two brands, neither only from the Milanese link between Alfa Romeo and.Zagato. The TZ3 Corsa is a race car, honouring the 100th anniversary of Alfa Romeo’s racing Heritage. It celebrates the men and machines of the Alfa Romeo Zagato common tradition: Scuderia Ferrari of 20’s and 30’s, Alfa Corse of 40’s and 50’s, Autodelta of 60’s and 70’s up to the latest Scuderia Zagato of 80’s and 90’s.
Commissioned by a German Alfa Romeo Zagato’s Gentleman driver, the TZ3 Corsa is based on a mono shell carbon fibre tubular chassis, coupled with a tubular frame and a lightweight aluminium body.
By looking at the above teaser picture, we can tell the TZ3 will be a retro styled modern take on the TZ1. Based on what we've heard and by looking at the overall proportions, we can also assume it will be a coachbuilt special of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, meaning the TZ3 Corsa will get its power from a 4.2-liter V8. (spec sheet here) The doors open Ferrari Enzo-style, hinged at the front and in the roof.
