The Gooding site itself shows the car with successively, a Buhne coachplate, no coachplate and then a Glaser badge. If verified records exist, as would seem to be suggested, then fine - but why tell only part of the story? The car had the Buhne plate when in the U.K. and when it first arrived in the U.S. for sure. That being the case, I do wonder whether the Glaser numbered plate now screwed to the firewall has been there all along. Did Buhne carry out restoration, repair or even re-bodying of the car. I do not know. Auction catalogue descriptions that purport to be authoritative but fail to give a complete picture are frankly a pain and only serve to confuse history.

A photograph of the car when new would be extremely useful - anybody know of Glaser records (a body number is shown in the Gooding details)? Or Buhne records for that matter.

Clive.

Just to add to wondering why Glaser identification has been added to this car, a photograph from about 2010 showing the firewall without the Glaser plate can be found here:-

http://www.pbase.com/noyphoto/image/132772713

and this interesting comment:-

"This 1928 S was assembled at the Mercedes-Benz factory in Stuttgart, Germany and shipped to a Mercedes-Benz dealer in Austria. The current owner, John E. Riegel purchased this vehicle in 1964 and has owned the car ever since. Every part of the car, excluding the body (my italics), carry original factory numbers." can be found here:-

So who is going to own up to making these additions and say why? As they say, I think we should be told....

Clive.
