In the early 50s the Reimann brothers from Dresden (GDR) had the idea of their own Porsche. They bought an old VW Kübelwagen chassis with engine and designed a Porsche-like body. The coachbuilders Arno & Helfried Lindner from Mohorn near Dresden built the body, the car was mounted in the garage of Reimann's parents. The "Porsche" was ready in 1954.
Supposedly Arno Lindner has built 13 more bodies for the Reimann brothers, which they sold as complete cars.

With due respect Tommy, would it not make more sense to name this thread "Arno & Helfried Lindner Volkswagen" and categorize it based on the coachbuilder? Arno & Helfried Lindner was as I understand a professional coachbuilder (albeit a rather obscure one) and we will perhaps find other cars made by them one day too.

Regardless, the survivor have now been restored. :)

Thank you for the nice pics.
I have named the thread after the Reimann brothers because they designed the cars. Yes, Arno & Helfried Lindner were the coachbuilder, they built that what the Reimanns designed.
Nevertheless it was a private project.

Okay. I just think of it as something close to the Kelly Corvette by Vignale or the MG MGA coupé by Panelcraft, which is to say that it was a project designed and commissioned by a private person but ultimately built by a professional coachbuilder. :)

Still I would love to see more from this coachbuilder. I've tried to search for Arno & Helfried Lindner without finding anything else than these Porsche bodies. Are anything else of their works (assuming they had any) known?

I think, that the Lindners had only a body repair shop and that the bodies for the Reimanns were the only complete bodies they've built.
