Unfortunately quite common within the W.O.Bentley community. Not in all cases it could be helped however, particulary Weymann bodies like this fell into disrepair rather quickly, and were difficult and thus uneconomical to repair at times when a car like this could be picked up for a song. In later years however, the Le Mans boy racers syndrome befell many gents in their penopause, and a number of perfectly good bodies were discarded for open green VDP teamcar lookalikes, often quite crudely made. It took the club quite a bit of time to turn from purely a circuit perspective to more historical awareness. Nowadays the tide has turned, and original cars are surpassing the boy toys which surely is their best chance of survival.

4 1/2 Litre Sportsman's Coupe by Maythorn (chassis XT3627)...1931
Registration No. GT 8773
This car was sent to the dealer in February 1931 with the VdP body -- this was quite a common practice. BUT the body was changed for the Maythorn Coupe. The only original body now left of the 6 Maythorn Sportsman's Coupes built for Berkeley Street dealer, Charles Follett
