1962 Jaguar E-type Series 1 3.8 FHC Comp.
This early E-type Series 1 3.8 FHC became particularly well known amongst Lynx customers as it was their demonstrator for many years and used successfully in competition. Presented today in fast road/competition specification, it has been used in sprints and hillclimbs. Its condition and mechanical setup make this one of the best E-types we have offered and we cannot recommend this example highly enough. Perfect for pre-63 GT, Jaguar Classic Challenge and fast road events.
This car is a 1962 Right Hand Drive 3.8 Fixed Head Coupe E type. The car from the time was found and restored as a standard 3.8 E type by Colin Pearcy, who has great knowledge and expertise in E types. We understand it is a matching number car.
After this, around 1996, it passed to Lynx in Hastings who carried out a sympathetic but very thorough upgrade on the car, and it became their demonstrator. They are all aimed at making the car faster, more sure-footed and generally nicer to drive on road or track.
After it was sold by Lynx, it was bought by Paul Roberts of Jersey who retained it for a number of years. During that time, Chris visited Jersey and drove it for him in a series of speed events under the Jersey Speed Week banner. Chris was very pleased to win this outright in the car. This was much more a testament to how the car was set up! The car was also used by Paul and his wife for one or more “Highland Gathering” Tours in Scotland, for which it was very well suited.
Following this, it was owned for about ten years by GT40 owner / driver Andrew Fordyce who used it in tours, track days and competitive hill climbs. The car was subject to much high-quality work by Lynx, and has been maintained professionally by ourselves ever since.
Some more detail of work by Lynx:
Engine. This has been blue-printed by Lynx and tuned for fast road-and track use. This includes
D type valves, fast road cam shafts, porting and polishing, balanced components, a stainless steel competition exhaust system and weber carburettors. It is set up for maximum drivability
Gearbox. This is an all synchro-semi-close ratio Jaguar gearbox. The original “Moss” type box has been retained if a future owner wished to re-fit it.
Suspension. This has been upgraded with stiffer torsion bars at the front and matching stiffer coil springs at the rear. These give a more positive ride without being in any way harsh. Dampers are high-quality Leda adjustable units. The steering rack is solid mounted for accuracy of steering. The front anti-roll bar is a stiffer, adjustable bar. All suspension settings are to our own developed figures.
The car is fitted with 6 inch rim chrome wire wheels.

I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them.
Congratulations on an excellent website.
