Now a proud member of a select group of Ferrari V12 classics - the beautifully lined 400i! In the mid-1970s, virtually every car that car lovers loved came from the stylish design drawing boards of Pininfarina. First came the 365GT4 2 + 2, and later, in this model run, the Bosch K-Jetronic 400i. Most of the 400s sold came with the GSM, three-speed automatic transmission, which meant for the first time ever a Ferrari was available with automatic transmission (a boon for USA customers!), which of course the Ferrari marketing department (which actually existed back then?) capitalized on. Of the 1,305 400i's ever produced, only 422 models were sold with manual transmission. And those 422 are of course the best models, as such a powerful Ferrari demands a driver with the skill to handle a manual transmission. Consequently, the Ferrari 400i’s with manual transmission are the most highly sought-after classic Ferrari’s. Despite the powerful V12, the 400i remains an affordable 12-cylinder Ferrari classic. Now, make no mistake, this model is not the lowest priced car on the market, it is recently serviced and has a new clutch and she is black with black leather. The very limited availability of an original black 400i, with black leather, means that the seller was not asking an unreasonable price. As for me, the decision to buy this car was instantaneous, when I first laid eyes on this 'black beauty'. What a classy car! And the investment is a responsible one: the 400 models have only been recently discovered by most aficionados and collectors and therefore continue to rise in value. So ask yourself this: how many of the 422 models of the 400i with manual transmission ever produced still exist? This car was sold new in Milan, and the last owner was an Italian collector. This classic Ferrari is an original in mint condition. Classic car restoration is often unending, but an original car that is like a time machine in which people can sit and drive right now is much more attractive, and hard to find these days! It’s clear to see that this 400i has hardly been used, and as an additional feature, she comes with her original car folder with instructions and service booklets.

A black painted body is the preeminent 'traitor' of poor metal plating or painting. This 400i has the original and undamaged metal plating. Newly painted once for cosmetic reasons. No specks, scratches or dents found anywhere on the body. Very nice and tight with a deep shine. I rarely use the word 'perfect' when describing a classic car, but the paint work on this car certainly earns that description. The body’s lines are perfect. The bumpers undamaged and perfectly straight on the car. All windows are flawless and original. The chrome elements are undamaged and have a fine deep shine. This is one of the most stylish looking classic 400i’s around, and the added beauty of it is that you need not remortgage your house to possess her.
The interior is a time machine, completely original, bringing you back to 1980. Every detail is like it was when she left the factory. There is nothing worn or damaged, and even the original leather is free of any slits or loose stitching. See the shape of the seats: proof that they were rarely sat on. The leather-covered Momo steering wheel is smooth and flawless. The wood is undamaged and all logos easy to read. And also, no damage from watches or jewelry on the top of the dashboard. The floor carpet is original and undamaged. Hardly any traces of use in the interior. What style!
ENGINECOMPARTMENT, TRUNK SPACE, WHEELS & TIRES
In the engine compartment you will find the original V12 with four overhead camshafts and reliable Bosch K-Jetronic injection. Runs smoothly, no smoke, and good oil pressure. Everything in the engine compartment is visibly original and untouched. All factory plates present. The trunk retains the original, flawless upholstery - no dirt or stains. A full-size spare tire under the floor. The Cromodora alloy wheels are virtually flawless, with good Michelin tires all around.
The 400i was sold new by a Milanese Ferrari dealer. The car soon became part of an extensive Ferrari collection, and thanks to an Italian mediator, I was able to purchase her from the Milanese collector. This 400i comes with all original documentation and service booklets. The clutch was recently renewed and the engine serviced. This car drives excellently!
I am not a natural flatterer, I like to think that I "tell it like it is", politely I hope. So when I tell you that I am very impressed by the contents of your website, it is just not English politeness. I of course love the subject matter but you deal with it in an energetic and respectful manner. I am overwhelmed by the research that has gone into compiling the list of coachbuilders/bodybuilders for Europe and North America. I have never heard of the vast majority of them.
