A while ago we reported about the wonderful Dodge Viper-based Devon GTX, which was introduced during the '09 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. After the Viper brand went on the market, Scott Devon had made three different offers to buy Viper, which were sadly rejected by Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli. Devon's production plans for the GTX may be in jeopardy, now that the Chrysler-Fiat Group have decided to kill the Viper. |

We came across some scans from Quattroruote Magazine on the net, picturing a car that's supposed to be a Bugatti. It appeared to be a top secret design proposal by Walter de'Silva, now almost ten years old. Our first thoughts: Oh my God... Walter, what were you thinking?! |

While studying the domain of classic coachbuilding one inevitably encounters many creations that have been lost forever. Wars, political and economic turmoil, accidents or simply rust have caused hundreds of unique cars and bodies to disappear into oblivion. Sometimes cars thought to have been lost for decades, miraculously appear back in the public - examples include the Pourtout Talbot-Lago T150C SS #90120, the Volvo Elisabeth II or the B124MR Bentley 4 ¼ Van Vooren DHC. But what about a car, the whereabouts of which has been known all the time, but which nevertheless has been considered lost for more than half a century now? Here is the story of the sensational Chrysler Norseman and of its unfortunate demise. |

Do you still remember your first great love? I'm sure you do. One never forgets his or her highschool sweetheart; the first secret meetings, school parties, the first kiss... Those were the days, but if you meet that one special person again after many years, it is yet to be seen if this person is still as nice and beautiful as how he or she lived in your memory. Both your lives have changed considerably since then. New partners come along, then marriage (or not) and maybe a bunch of children as well. Sometimes it is best to leave your romantic childhood memories as they were, because not every rendez vous will feel good. For me, this story doesn't count when it comes to cars. |

The recent and regrettable passing of Elio Zagato caused us to query a variety of noted car enthusiasts to tell us what is their favorite Zagato bodied car. Sounds easy, right?
Very few of the respondents could claim just one favorite. “Well, it might be the 6C 1500 Alfa, but then again maybe the DB4GT, or wait, I forgot about those lovely Maserati Zagatos.” And so it went. Even Ercole Spada could not easily decide between two of his own designs. It seems that there are so many interesting, unique, and/or beautiful Zagato designs that it is very hard to choose just one. |

Back in 2006 James Glickenhaus and Pininfarina gave us the one-off P4/5 by Pininfarina, a rebodied Ferrari Enzo. Shortly after the first images were released, I loaded one of the photos in Photoshop and made an impression of how a 'Competizione' version could look. I used this opportunity to pay homage to Luigi Chinetti's legendary North American Racing Team (N.A.R.T.) and for the enjoyment of James (Jim) Glickenhaus and the many P4/5 Tifosi, I posted the digital rendering on FerrariChat.com. Good ideas never come alone, as it now appears, because when Jim manages to find a major sponsor, this car is actually going to become reality! "There are a LOT of stars that would have to align for this to happen but it's not impossible," Jim stated. |

April 17, 1930, Brescia. The late Elio Zagato learned his trade from the very best.
In an awesome demonstration of speed, reliability and advanced design, Alfa Romeo 6C 1750s, all with ultra-light bodies by Zagato, won the first four places in the 1000-mile Italian marathon known as the Mille Miglia. It came as little surprise to master coachbuilder Ugo Zagato, for he had seen it before; Alfa Romeo Zagatos had already won the epic event in 1928 and 1929. Still, by any standards, the 1930 sweep was an astounding feat. Overnight, Alfa Romeo became synonymous with speed, and the Milanese coachbuilder became famous for his weight cheating, “spider” bodywork. “With body by Zagato” would become the catch-phrase of a generation who wanted the latest in beautiful, lightweight competition and grand touring cars.
But what exactly was this type of construction, this ultra light bodywork? How was it unique and how did it differ from the similarly famous Touring construction? And who was Ugo Zagato, whose name would become famous throughout the world as a master of light? |
